Mirror mirror on the wall…

Mirrors are the most amazing decorating tool. They are not just for checking out how we look in an outfit, or checking errant hairs on our faces (if you are under 50, please know you are going to need a magnifying one in about another decade), but I digress… If your home has dark spots, a mirror can be used to reflect light from other sources as well as to reflect views from different angles or to emphasize something of beauty as seen below. Whenever I find a mirror in a client’s home that is not being used, I am thrilled. Their capacity to change the dynamic of a room are endless.

If your room is small, using a mirror can visually expand your spaces. Mirrors can also create a sense of rhythm in a hall or up a staircase as in below.

The view from the landing beckons the user to come up and see what is reflected in the mirrors up above. In well thought out and visually attractive decorating, the visitor is encouraged to come and explore more as the home or garden unfolds.

A mirror on a wall opposite a window can appear almost like a window in itself. Care must be taken to assure that whatever is reflected is beautiful as well. In the bathroom below, note how lovely it is to see the reflection of the statue as well as the statue itself.

the reflection of the Buddha in the mirror adds dimension to the room as well as providing a window like effect on the wall

The same effect was accomplished in an outdoor area I designed for a bachelor and his girlfriend. It was a small, awkwardly sized courtyard in a condominium complex. Note how a mirror in an outdoor setting is unexpected yet still achieves the same result of added dimension and brightness.

Below in a conservatory/greenhouse I designed, the addition of the mirror was another detail that enhanced the space as it not only reflected the lovely yard outside, but also the flowers within it. It is a magical space.

God is in the details

In the photos below, mirrors surround the banquette and provide the owner with a lovely spot to dine, particularly at night when candles are lit and he is entertaining. Note how the print is reflected in two separate mirrors. So much dimension can be added with their thoughtful placement. With the dramatic red walls, it is a lovely and intimate setting. Also note how the frame of the mirror itself can add to the details of the space.

As you can see, I am a BIG fan of mirrors… They are an amazing tool to use to bring so much light and life to a room. The power of reflection is so important in our rooms as well as our lives.

You use a glass mirror to see your face, you use works of art to see your soul

Your home and garden can be works of art you create for yourself.

Till next time, find ways to elevate your every day experience.

Reflect YOUR beautiful soul.
